Korea's year of 1987 used to be a prohibited subject in the film industry. It's the year when the 5.18 Democracy Movement and other remarkable events of Korea's modern history took place, meaning a lot of risks in handling such subject. 

'Ordinary Person' which was released earlier in March, was also a movie based on 1987. But its box office scores and reviews weren't so positive. Therefore, '1987' coming out as a blockbuster movie seemed to be carrying much pressure in doing well. 

Fortunately, Jang Joon Hwan took a stand in his vision of art and created a beautiful heart-touching film. Excluding unnecessary scenes like the car-chasing scene from last summer's 'Taxi Driver', the film starts as the story of activist Park's life and continues on to the June Democracy Movement ending the film with great quality. 

All actors who voluntarily participated in the film regardless of their role also contributed amazingly to this film, '1987'. I'm happy to finally see such a meaningful movie.
