Jeju island is one of the most popular summer getaways. As much as it's been told that Oreums are Jeju's finest beauty, here we present Darangshi Oreum: Jeju island's classic Oreum. 

Out of all the hundreds of Oreums, Darangshi Oreum is most famous for its view from the top of the peak. On the east, you see the east coastal oceans and the Sungsan sun rising-peak, on the left you see smaller oreums popped up along with Halla mountain. 

Up to the middle of the oreum, it's a bit dark because of the crowded woodwort trees brushing off each other, but at the entrance, there's a relaxing scent the flows in the air.  

The Darangshi Oreum is located at the middle of the Dragon eye oreum surrounded by nature. There are no restaurants or food stands around the Oreum so if you're hungry it's best to eat out before getting in for the hike. 

The hiking track first starts with stiars and later follws to a path. Fences follow the track to prevent anyone getting lost, and the paths are pretty tidy. 

This is what you'll see after hiking around ten minutes. The Ah-ggeun Darangshi Oreum and the Eunwol-peak, Siksan-peak and the Sungsan sunrise-peak reveals its presence. Walking up the oreum is not an easy one but the scenic views will wash away the tiredness. 

Once you passby the woodwort tree forests, welcome to the pine tree forests. Over the south of the Oreum you can see wind generators lined up with other smaller oreums. 

Once the pine trees fade away and you start seeing silver grass bushes, you're close to being at the top. 

This is what you'll see after a thirty-minute walk. On clear skies, you'll be able to see the Halla mountain among the oreums but don't be so sad on foggy days. The mystic atmosphere is another mesmerizing surprise Darangshi has for you. 

There's an enormous crater on Darangshi 110m in depth, its diameter wide as 1.5km about the size of the Beakrokdam. There's a funny legend about how this crater was created. The goddess who created Jeju made the oreums by scooping sand off her apron handful by handful but thought Darangshi was too big for an oreum. So she punched the top of the oreum and voila, the crater was created! 

The highest peak of Darangshi oreum isn't actually reached by climbing up. You have to take a longer walk towards the north around the crater. There's a path opened to walk around the crater in a circle and every step leads you to the picturesque vistas of Jeju. 

It's been told that the Darangshi Oreum used to be called as the 'Dal-langshi Oreum' because its crater looked much like a moon(dal). It's a folk tale so the story's origin is up in the air but in Chinese letters, it's named as 'Wollang-Peak' and in Korean it's Darangshi or Dorangshi. 

During Korea's Thanksgiving, Chuseok, they open a moon-welcoming event for everyone who's looking for a special holiday at Jeju. 

This X mark of cedar trees looks like a treasure hunt spot. 

Volcano scorias are used for cosmetics. Scorias are small rocks that are only a 2-4cm in size, made when volcanoes erupt. It's got lots of holes and is red or black because of containing massive volumes of oxidated iron. These rocks are piled below the Oreums.
