Jiri Mountain's Umchun-River Raft
It's a burning summer now and many will be preparing for or already have left for summer trips off to where the water is at. Here we suggest a new place to enjoy water that's not a beach nor a valley
Hamyang, located in the southern part of Gyungsang province, is a splendid place to explore. From Durae villages to winery tours, Sunbi(scholoar) culture events and the Sanglim park, there's so much to enjoy.
That's not it. Hamyang bridges the Jiri Mountain that's been the backbone of Korea's spirit with the Baekdu Mountains and the peaks trail along hugging Hamyang. Towards the bottom line of Jiri you'll meet Dulle-gil tracks and the forests, the farms, the splashing water creeks create what Hamyang is today.
Jiri Mountain's Odojae is a must-visit in Hamyang. It's a hill that people had to go over a long time ago when interacting with southern shore villages, a great picturesque site for photo-lovers.
Another site is the 'Thousand year Forest, Sanglim'. Sanglim's forests present a spectacular view every season. Fall's Sangsa flower and the leaves, the massive lotus garden in the summer and more! It's also famous for its eco-friendly plantations of lotus flowers.
Chulwon's Hantan River or Youngwol's Dong River are mostly famous for rafting in Korea but Hamyang's got a place nothing less. Have you heard of Umchun River? Umchun is a river that surrounds the Dulle-gil trail coming from Jiri mountain, and also has a 'Hamyang Rafting District'.
Various stations provide rafting experiences, and here we took our rafting adventure at the 'Power Leports'
Buckle up your floating vests and it's time for some safety guides. After a simple safety announcement at the rafting office, we take a ride to the higher parts of Umchun RIver. Umchun has great conditions in rafting thanks to its bushy forests that allow cool shades underneath the steaming sun. The water from the higher rivers usually run fast with much waves so research in advance if you want to know the water conditions by the time you're visiting. If you want to enjoy an extreme rafting experience visit when the water runs fast, and choose another time if you want to enjoy a gentle rafting experience.
No such thing as enough safety. Don't forget to warm up before rafting.
Safety-ed continues even at the river.
Now its time to paddle in harmony on the raft with your team as you ride on the crashing waves of Umchun River. Building teamwork with strangers is another new way of venturing along the strong waves as you raft together.
Signing up for the 'Summer Rafting Tour' at the Umchun river is another way to be part of this fun experience. The tour includes a walk around Sanglim and a tour at the Hanok Village and Namgae School followed with lunch and rafting activities in the afternoon.
Anyone who's interested can visit Hamyang's culture tourism hompage or call to make reservations. Specifics follow below.
