Across Haegum Gang to Oedo
'Haegum Gang' can be a name that could be misunderstood. But it's not a 'Gang(river)'. It's a rock island.
'Haegum Gang' is situated 500m south of Geojae Island, a beautiful rock island where the highly cut cliffs and the blue ocean makes a wonderful scene. Due to its arrowroot feature, it used to be called as 'Galdo(Arrowroot Island)'. Now it's called as Haegum Gang because it looks like the Haegum River from Gumgang Mountain, another reason why it's known as the Kumkang Mountain of the seas.
The most beautiful place of Haegum Gang must be 'ShipjaDoyul'. If you're lucky enough on days with low waves, the ships can go through the caves. The sparkling waves under sunny skies are one grand scene of nature to enjoy. Haegumgang can be sighted on land too but to look up close to its beauty you must board a ship and come close but cruise ships are too big to come in, so it's best to ride a fishing boat to enter.
Haegum Gang may look like one rock island, but in fact, underwater it's divided into four cliffs like a cross so ships can come through. Inside the cross, the cave is a mysterious water dropping pond and legend has it that if you drink the water, your wishes come true!
The Lion rock on the left is famous for sun-rising photos. Around March and September, the island is packed with people who want to take pictures of the sunrise between the lion rock and cliff right next to it.
The Groom Rock, or also known as the Candlelight Rock on the right used to be two rocks facing each other like a groom and bride but from the Sara typhoon of 1959, the 'Bride Rock' crashed. Even now corrosions happen.
Around the Haegum Gang area, the view is breath-taking enough to be confirmed as a national park. With so many islands to see, it's a must-go travel spot.
At Oedo, 4km away from Geojaedo is a botanic garden called 'Botania'. Built over 30 years by a lovely couple, you can take a rest at this beautiful garden after boarding a cruise ship that goes to Oedo and viewing Hagum Gang's vantages. Not only is Botania beautifully gardened, it has a very exotic scenery. Many unique, tropical plants create a tropical island-like atmosphere.
After climbing the uphill of Botania, you'll enter a 'Venus Garden' that will remind you of a Greek temple. This botanic garden that pretty much represents Botania was motivated by England's Buckingham Palace. It has a very European atmosphere.
It's a perfect photo spot as well, with an exotic wide-view of scenery provided. It's a great travel destination with anyone from friends to families, and lovers.
