[MHN's Pickup] New trend in Korea, VR experience

[MHN] In real lives, due to immense requires from colleges, academic stress and eagerness of losing weight, people are suffering from various worries one has. Therefore, rather than living positive life, there filled a negative energy and anger never stops in minds.

In this kind of situations there are various ways to handle with one's stress but today MHN prepare VR café which is a trend among youngsters. It attracts customers with its high-level expressions of reality that has always been a dream and gratify one's senses.

MHN met with the CEO An Chi-myeong and Lee Hye-min of ‘VR plus located in Nowon station and talked about VR.

 

Could you explain about VR?

- VR stands for Virtual Reality and gives the impression of reality through display device convey the virtual reality screen. There, using VR, one can experience unusual situations such as cross the single log bridge, met up with zombie and so on.

How did you first learn about VR?

- I worked in display company as a researcher and confronted VR during one exhibition. And from then I was interested in VR. Later I visited the first VR café in Korean and surprised with its improved technical skills and immersion compared to the ones in exhibition. I couldn't forget the fun that I felt from VR café and convinced that VR café would be a new place for fun in Korea. There, I resolutely quit the job and opened my own VR café.

What are the programs of VR plus?

- Program is divided into 2 choices, with the time limit or to have a voucher. With the time limit upon the scheduled time users can change the games and do whatever they want within the time. When it comes to voucher, users can experience certain game for one time for their experience. Contents they can try are attraction VR, VR experience, electronic wheel.

For example, in case of attraction, it uses the movable devices along with VR equipment that users can experience 4D and high immersion. In case of VR experience, it can be done with VIVE, Occulus, Playstation VR devices and from the most popular acrophobia experience to zombie and action games it has more than 100 kinds of contents. Electronic wheel is only allowed to use for the people who bought time limit ticket. People who feels dizzy due to too much VR games use it during their break time.

 

Are there many customers who tired VR for their first time?

- There are a lot. So, we value the kindness of explaining how to do VR. VR devices are not yet popularized and most of the people try it for the first time in our café. Up to the age and favors, we recommend then how to use and what contents are included so that users can maximize their fun with VR.

We've heard that there are limitations for users of VR, is it true?

- To minimize the waiting time, we limit the possible user in café as much as 20. As devices are limited but there are lot of customers, many people would waste their time waiting for certain devices. So, we made a limitation of 20 people and allow them to use VR devices comfortably without long waiting times.

Are there various contents of VR recently?

- Men and women of all ages visit our café and require various contents. Therefore in our café, we buy new contents for the first time and try ourselves. Then fit them into possible recommendation categories. Also agonize how to maximize the fun of VR and prepare rocking chair, fan to blow wind and many other items.

What is the most memorable moment?

- Once more than 10 elementary students came together. After the use, mother of the party thrower thanked us and said, she didn't know where to hold the party and then someone recommended the café and she is proud that kids had so much fun here. Every time kids are coming, it is hard to control them but as parents thank us later for the time then we feel so proud than ever.

How would you predict VR?

- In my opinion, VR market is only a beginning including the contents and devices. Now we only use controller on our hand but later there would be more devices wear on body and feet, there contents would double up and it would be possible to try unbelievable experiences within VR devices. As time goes, people's expectations of VR will increase and we will continue to update devices and contents and live up to that expectations. Our goal is provide people with more fun and freshness of VR and moreover let people friendly with VR devices.
