[MHN.Korea.com] "We just hope people would notice that KIMI&12 worked together for this."
Studio KIMI&12, known for their unique illustrations and designs recently collaborated with Studio Parenthese Co.,Ltd's life-fashion brand MUTEMUSE.
KIMI&12 and MUTEMUSE created two different styles of wide straps named 'Still Life' and 'Journey'. The two wide-straps were created with unique color choices and original artpieces.
The 'Still Life' strap and 'Journey' both embed KIMI&12's uniqueness, their signature comfy-vibe designs.

KIMI&12's drawings have a much retro but friendly-feeling mood to it. In story-telling pictures they perfectly depict images in a creative and witty way. For this collaboration with MUTEMUSE, both 'Still Life' and 'Journey' envelop a story behind as well.
We met with the imaginative artists of studio KIMI&12's KIMI and 12 .

Q. What Came to Your Mind When MUTEMUSE Asked for a Collaboration?
A. When it comes to deciding fashion work, we get very careful. We've always felt that MUTEMUSE was a brand that greatly expresses its identity in all their designs, photos and products. The fact how they really appreciate quality and clear direction got us thinking this could be a great project to work on together.
Q. What Did You Consider the Most While Creating the Straps with MUTEMUSE?
A. It's not just a bag that just needs to look pretty. Collaboration is about working together. So both sides need to work it out with great efffort. However, these days when said 'collaborative work', it's often imbalanced in the sides of work effort. But we're happy with what we did with MUTEMUSE for this work because we thought, worked, persisted together during the work process.

Q. The simple and subtle 'Journey', and the strong characteristics depicted for 'Still Life' are displayed very clearly on the straps.
A. Yes. It was a great choice to work both the designs. The two seem very opposite but also very synergetic at the same time. One's about nature and the other one's of people and the objects that surround us in life.
Q. What's the Story Behind Both Artworks?
A. First, 'Still Life' is a quiet room. So, this paper stuck on something or this liquid spilled from the cup are all unknown patterns and shapes. We just wanted to freely imagine things we can see easily around us. The landscape of 'Journey' is about the double-sides of holidays. The light and shadows portray the happiness and sadness of holidays. We love off-days but we hate that feeling when it's almost ending, or sometimes we just end up wasting time thinking what to do. We just tried to draw out what a person who couldn't spend the holiday right would have felt.
Q. What Music Do You Think Goes Well for Each Strap?
A. 'Still Life' reminds us of Oh Ji Eun's 'Seoul Life Is'. You know how sometimes we feel attached to objects because we are hurt from people outside. That relaxing moment when just staring at things around the room, or when it's only a cat, a plant and myself breathing. 'Journey' reminds us of Keith Jarett's THE KÖLN CONCERT album. I think the highs and lows of the mountains are like the highs and lows of notes on a music score. It's an image that goes well with the improvising character of jazz.

Q. What's Your Favorite Design from MUTEMUSE?
A. We both were drawn to 'Bad Girls'. It was eye-opening to see how a strap design with letterings in it looked good. It not only had a message but was a visual shock to us. We loved the witty message too.
Q. What Would You Like People to Remember this Collaboration As?
A. This collaboration with MUTEMUSE was the strongest project in sharing our identity as KIMI&12. If our main concern before was about making the designs look good to the objects, we're now trying to expess more of what we think. That's why we hope people would recognize this project as, 'KIMI&12 Did it!'. Of course, people have different perspectives on everything so some may not think this piece isn't much like us, but we hope you see 'This one is really KIMI&12'.
